Athletic Program

We strive to develop a confident, positive, dignified individual who will achieve his/her full potential through the acquisition of knowledge and skills necessary to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.

The dynamic athletic program at Notre Dame des Victoires provides students with year-round opportunities to explore and develop their interests in a full range of extracurricular sports including basketball, soccer, and volleyball.

Parents and alumni are trained by the Catholic Charities Catholic Youth Organization (CCCYO) and serve as coaches. Coaches emphasize:

  • Team building
  • Sportsmanship
  • Skill development
  • Competition
  • Teamwork
  • Lifelong learning skills
  • Healthy individuals

All coaches are acknowledged twice annually, at the end of each sports season, at a Family Mass at the NDV Church where they receive a blessing and formal thank you for sharing their gifts and talents as coaches.

At the end of each school year a sports awards dinner and presentation recognizes each child in the sports program for their participation and achievements.

Under the auspices of the CCCYO, NDV students also participate in a citywide cross-country event in the fall and a citywide track and field meet in the spring. The NDV community takes great pride in its downtown gymnasium, the site of numerous school-hosted tournaments throughout the year.

Physical Education is integral to the school's athletic department. Grades kindergarten through third participate in unit blocks that include hand, eye, foot coordination, body and space awareness, loco motor and balance skills. Games that present these skills include steal the bacon, capture the flag, six stations, mini soccer, kickball and relay races.

Grades four through eight participate in the President's Physical Fitness testing program. The six tests include pull-ups, sit-ups, the mile run, sit-reach, the shuttle-run and push-ups. Personal improvement is the goal for each student.

Students learn that nutritious food consumption provides energy for alertness and mental concentration. They also learn how to make healthy food choices for meals and snacks to improve physical performance.

Cultural diversity is celebrated through monthly rhythmic movement/dance classes which feature the music and dance traditions from various world cultures.

The NDV Parents' Association sponsors an annual Jog-a-thon fundraiser that takes place during the students' regularly scheduled physical education class. Students enthusiastically participate by running laps around the upper track located in the school's gymnasium.
